The year is read as single numbers followed by the word
(year):

When asking what the date is, we use
Used as main
verb by itself
means 'to pass', 'go through'.
When it is used after the verb as particle, it is pronounced with a neutral tone 'guo', it indicates something happened in the indefinite past, i.e. it emphasises a past experience and not completion as with verb +:
(Have you ever watched Chinese movie?) (I have had Italian food.) (He has not been to many countries.)
before the verb
while the 'guo'
is retained. And the question form is made by adding 
to the
statement.
