Effective academic writing on the web is different to writing in traditional papers... How different will depend on who your writing is aimed at...
A lot of academic writing on the web is not very effective. Writers create text deserts - long papers which require the reader to scroll through many screens of plain text. This is perhaps acceptable if you are a leading specialist and are confident that your reader will read your paper never mind its presentation. It is also reasonable if you are writing essentially in a high trust environment (writing for your teacher for example) and just putting your material on the web for a bit of self publicity.
However, if you are looking to gain new readers or to establish credibility in a low trust environment, consider making some changes from your hard copy...
