| A recent study (Williams,1999), of six U.S. cities shows death rates
increasing with just 15 micrograms per cubic meter of Particulate Matter 10 (PM10)
pollutants. In all, at least 8 studies have now shown that PM10 at any level kills people.
A study of people in Steubenville, Ohio, (Markoff, 1998) showed that each increase of 100 micrograms per cubic meter of total suspended particles is associated with a 4% increase in the death rate. Interestingly, the Steubenville study showed that the death rate changes as fine particle levels change, but not as sulphur dioxide levels change. |

| The combination of moving pictures and sound in addition to text has for some time now been regarded as a more effective way of learning than plain text or just listening to lecturers. A good example of this is the video, which in recent years has been used extensively as a form of technology in the lectures and seminars. As well as being seen as a novelty or a break from tradition, the professionalism of some of the productions meant that students could retain more information as their attention was caught by the moving pictures, and sometimes well know actors playing the characters. |

| In many instances the breaching of systems can provide more effective security in the future. A good example of this was the penetration of British Telecom's electronic mail system in 1984, by Steven Gold and Robert Schifreen, which resulted in a rude message being left in none other than the Duke of Edinburgh's account! This incident attracted enormous publicity and led directly to improved security arrangements for the whole of the Prestel system. Gold and Schifeen were therefore extremely indignant at being treated as criminals and this illustrates the discrepancy between what the law considers to be criminal behavior and how the Computer Underground often perceive themselves. |
