Introductions
Most writers in their first academic year will only need to
use one of
the following options.
Simple option:
Many student will simply start with an overview
of their paper (recommended).
Define the boundaries of your topic by limiting
the scope of your paper.
Getting your reader's attention:
Focus attention with an interesting statement
or
Start with an example relevant to your topic.
Include a quotation, and then go on to comment
on it.
Start with a question or a problem (then deal with it in the main part of your paper).
More personal approaches:
Tell the reader why you became interested in the
subject
Reveal your point of view at this early stage.
Short papers: (say less than 1500 words) your introduction will be just
one paragraph.
A second paragraph can describe the context
of your topic.
Longer research papers: you might include several of the strategies and also
identify a research
gap for your paper.
