Appendices
An appendix or appendices contain information which cannot
conveniently be put in the main body of your text. This could be statistical information,
or any kind of evidence which you might wish to use to support your argument. It is best
to give too much evidence rather than too little. However, do be selective about
presenting large tables of statistics.
It is difficult to give firm advice on when to leave information in the main body of your text or when to put it in an appendix. Conventions will differ according to institution. If in doubt, ask your tutor.
EXAMPLE The following is a reference to an appendix, contained in the main body of a report:
| At the time of writing this paper, some members of staff in the Business School had completed courses on the IT facilities available to them, and a number of these actually enrolled on beginners courses in what are now seen to be elementary IT skills. In Appendix 2 we can see that during a three month period in 1995 only 45 places were taken up on these courses, from a staff population of around 70. |
