Hotspots
These days none of us have any time. On the web, we are
constantly clicking and saying goodbye to sites. Attention spans are getting shorter.
Readers are getting more expert (or at least quicker) at rejecting documents, both hard
copy and electronic. With a conventional academic paper readers can quickly make yes/no
decisions about reading your work by looking first at the introduction (Is this worth reading?), the conclusion (Was anything worthwhile written
about?) and of course, if you have one, the abstract
(what is in this paper?). So, make your 'hotspots' concise, attractive and easy to read
(or wave goodbye to your reader).
